Full Moon Renewal Ritual

Full Moon Renewal Ritual

A ritual for release, reflection and renewal

The full moon has long been seen as a time of completion, reflection and release.
As the moon reaches its fullest point, many spiritual traditions use this moment to pause and look at what has unfolded since the beginning of the lunar cycle — what has grown, what has become clear, what has served us, and what we are ready to leave behind.

A Full Moon Renewal Ritual is a quiet practice of doing exactly that. It is not about asking the moon to change your life.

It is about creating a meaningful moment to pause, reflect, release and make space for what comes next.

You do not need to follow a complicated ceremony or have special spiritual experience.

You only need a quiet space, some uninterrupted time and the willingness to be honest with yourself.

What Is a Full Moon Renewal Ritual?

A full moon ritual is a spiritual practice performed around the time of the full moon.

Different cultures, spiritual traditions and modern practitioners have their own ways of observing it, so there is no single ritual that everyone follows.

However, a common modern practice follows four simple ideas:
Reflect on what has happened.
Release what you no longer wish to carry.
Give gratitude for what has grown.
Create space for what you want to move towards.

The full moon is therefore treated as a point of completion rather than a starting point.

It gives you a natural moment each month to stop, look back and consciously decide what you want to carry forward.

Before the Ritual

A ritual begins before the actual ceremony.
Give yourself some quiet time before you begin.

Choose a place where you will not be disturbed. This can be your bedroom, living room, balcony, terrace, garden or any place where you feel comfortable.

You may keep:

  • A journal or two sheets of paper
  • A pen
  • A candle or soft light
  • A bowl of water
  • Any personal spiritual objects that are meaningful to you
  • A comfortable place to sit

Nothing elaborate is required.

The purpose of preparing the space is simply to create a clear boundary between your everyday routine and the time you are giving yourself.

Step 1 - Cleanse Yourself and Your Space

Before beginning the ritual, take a few moments to cleanse yourself.

This is traditionally understood as a way of leaving behind the energy and distractions of the day and entering the ritual with a clear mind.

You can take a shower, wash your face, wash your hands or simply sit quietly and take a few slow breaths.

If you enjoy a more intentional cleansing experience, this is where you can use your Infuzy Full Moon Renewal Bath Bag as part of your pre-ritual preparation.

Allow the warm water and natural botanicals to become a simple transition between your everyday routine and your ritual.

There is no need to rush.
As you cleanse, imagine yourself leaving the day's noise behind.
You are not performing the ritual yet.
You are preparing yourself to be present for it.

Step 2 - Prepare Your Space

Once you are ready, prepare the space where you will perform your ritual.

  • Put away anything that may distract you.
  • Dim the lights if you prefer.
  • Light a candle if it feels meaningful to you.
  • You may also open a window for a few moments or simply sit in silence.
  • If you need you can use incense, crystals, candles or any particular spiritual object. or else use only what feels natural to your practice.

Then sit comfortably. Keep your journal and pen beside you.

Take a few slow breaths. Allow yourself to become still.

Step 3 - Ground Yourself

Before looking back at the month, bring your attention to the present moment.

Place your feet firmly on the floor.

  • Close your eyes if comfortable.
  • Take three to five slow breaths.
  • With every breath out, allow your body to relax.
  • Notice the weight of your body.
  • Notice your surroundings.
  • Notice the sounds around you.
  • You can quietly say: "I am here. I am present. I am ready to reflect."

There is no need to force your mind to become completely empty.
The purpose is simply to slow down enough to hear your own thoughts.

Step 4 - Reflect on the Lunar Cycle

Now look back at the time since the previous new moon or the last full moon.

Think about what has happened in your life.
You can write freely, or use a few simple questions:

  • What has changed in my life?
  • What have I learned?
  • What have I accomplished?
  • What has become clearer to me?
  • What am I proud of?
  • What has been difficult?
  • What has taken too much of my energy?

Do not judge your answers.
This part of the ritual is simply about seeing your life honestly. The full moon is often associated with illumination — bringing things into awareness.
Use this time to notice what you may have been too busy to notice before.

Step 5 - Recognise What Has Reached Completion

Now ask yourself:
What in my life has run its course?
It could be a habit.

  • A thought.
  • A fear.
  • A relationship pattern.
  • An old expectation.
  • A situation.
  • A resentment.
  • A version of yourself that you have outgrown.

Sometimes, what needs to be released is not something outside us. It may simply be the way we have been thinking about ourselves.

Write down whatever comes to mind.
Be specific.
Instead of writing:
"I release negativity."
Try:
"I am ready to release the need to control everything."
Instead of:
"I release stress."
Try:
"I am ready to stop carrying today's worries into tomorrow."
The more honestly you name what you are ready to release, the more meaningful this part of the ritual becomes.

Step 6 - The Release

Now take the paper on which you have written what you wish to release.
Read it quietly. You may read each point aloud or simply read it to yourself, Take a moment to acknowledge it. You do not have to pretend that it never happened.

You are simply recognising that you no longer want to carry it in the same way.

When you are ready, symbolically release the paper.
You can safely burn it in a fireproof container, tear it into pieces or discard it.
The physical act is symbolic.
The important part is the decision behind it.
As you release it, you can say:
"I acknowledge what has been. I release what I no longer need to carry. I make space for what is meant to come next."
If burning is not safe or suitable for your space, simply tearing the paper or throwing it away with intention is enough.
The ritual is about the meaning you give to the action, not the method itself.

Step 7 - Pause in Silence

After the release, do not immediately move to the next step.
Sit quietly for a few moments.

  • Take a slow breath.
  • Notice how you feel.
  • You may feel lighter.
  • You may feel emotional.
  • You may feel completely normal.
  • There is no correct response.

Allow yourself to experience whatever comes up without trying to force a particular feeling.
This small pause gives the act of release time to settle.

Step 8 - Give Gratitude

After releasing, turn your attention towards what remains.
Think about the things you are grateful for.
They do not have to be big. Perhaps someone supported you. Perhaps you experienced a beautiful moment. Perhaps you learned something important. Perhaps you simply made it through a difficult period.

Write down at least three things you are genuinely grateful for.
Then ask yourself:

  • What did this lunar cycle give me?
  • What did it teach me?
  • What do I want to remember from it?

Gratitude is not about pretending everything was perfect. It is about recognising what was meaningful, even within imperfect experiences.

Step 9 - Create Space for Renewal

Now that you have reflected and released, think about what you want to make space for.
This is the renewal part of the ritual.

Rather than making a long list of wishes, choose a few qualities or directions you want to carry into the next cycle.
You might choose:

  • Peace
  • Clarity
  • Courage
  • Self-trust
  • Love
  • Creativity
  • Rest
  • Abundance
  • Growth

Or something completely personal to you. Write your intention in a simple sentence.
For example:

  • "I choose to move forward with greater clarity."
  • "I choose to make more space for rest."
  • "I choose to trust myself more."
  • "I welcome new opportunities with an open mind."

Your intention does not need to be complicated.
It simply gives direction to the space you have created.

Step 10 - Spend a Few Moments With the Moon

If you can see the full moon, spend a few quiet moments looking at it. You can sit by a window, step outside or simply look towards the night sky.
You do not need to perform anything.
Just observe.

  • Think about the cycle you have completed.
  • Think about what you have released.
  • Think about what you are carrying forward.

If you cannot see the moon because of clouds, buildings or your surroundings, that is completely fine.
The purpose of the ritual is your reflection and intention — not whether you can physically see the moon.

Step 11 - Close the Ritual

When you feel ready to finish, take a few final breaths. Read your intention one last time.
You can place your hand over your heart or simply sit quietly.
Then close your journal.
Blow out your candle if you used one.
Clean your space gently.
Drink some water.
Take your time returning to your normal evening.
There is no need to immediately return to your phone, work or busy routine.
Give yourself a little space after the ritual.

After the Ritual

The ritual does not end with the last step.
The days that follow are where the meaning of the ritual becomes part of everyday life.
If you decided to release something, notice when you are tempted to pick it up again.
If you chose an intention, look for small ways to live it.
If you asked yourself an important question, give yourself time to find the answer.
A ritual does not have to create an immediate transformation.
Sometimes its value is simply that it helps us stop, notice and choose more consciously.

Remember
There is no perfect way to perform a Full Moon Renewal Ritual.
Different spiritual traditions have different practices, and your own ritual may change over time.

  • You do not need an elaborate altar.
  • You do not need expensive objects.
  • You do not need to follow every step exactly.

What matters most is that you create a quiet moment to see clearly, let go consciously, appreciate what is present and move forward with intention.
The full moon simply gives you a beautiful moment in nature to pause and begin again.
